How do you take care of yourself in between sessions? Of course, we all have probably used tennis balls, foam rollers, and exercise balls to alleviate a tight spot in a pinch. Now there is a complete system that is designed to address your acute and long-term needs and injuries at home right away when you need it most.
Deep Recovery™ is a whole body approach with whole body deep tissue massage tools designed to be used methodically and specifically with sustained pressure to release myofascial trigger points, muscle tension, headaches, jaw pain, and more.
Deep Recovery™ Methodology
Deep Recovery™ tools are not necessarily designed for the general purpose of "rolling" with constant movement like with tennis or lacrosse balls. Rather, these tools are designed to locate specific tension spots or trigger points with two balls placed bilaterally side by side using the Neck Track or Back Track and breathing, pausing, and holding the position for 30-60 seconds. Then you would move on in small increments until you've released the entire area, such as the chest or back or extremity you're working. The tracks may also be used with one ball at a time, such as when releasing the arch of the foot. The tracks have meticulously designed grooves into a semi-tough-silicone type material made from polyurethane foam which lies on a flat surface. This is where you would place the specific set of massage balls, which will vary in density to meet your appropriate needs and body build.
"Deep Recovery™ tools are amazing! Easy to use and easy to travel with, these tools can be a great addition to your home or gym arena. With a wide variety of treatment options for a specific or general whole body approach, these are a great way to achieve effective results anytime you need it. The body tracks are excellent to hold the balls in place for complete control over the amount of pressure and a more thorough, well-rounded treatment."

When I received the Whole Body Kit in the mail, my first impression was pretty darn good! I started experimenting with the balls and tracks without watching the videos on the Deep Recovery website. Not the wisest idea! The videos are ESSENTIAL in my opinion for visualization and clear instructions for each track and various ball sets to use these products exactly how they were designed.
The Whole Body Kit includes the Neck Track™ (sizes: M or L), the Body Track™, our 4 Inch Massage Ball Set, Sport, Very Firm, Firm and Soft Massage Ball Sets along with instructional DVD. This kit is designed for "complete self-myofascial release." If you're interested in learning more about fascia in general and myofascial bodywork, check out my blog Massage Techniques for Injury Work | Choosing the Best Massage Therapist.
I was pleased to find that the Massage Track™ and Neck Track™ were not a hard plastic material, but that they consist of polyurethane foam, which certainly seems more practical, comfortable, and also stays put better on a yoga mat or hard floor. I started checking out the density of each massage ball set and discovered that there's a nice range of density and sizes between the massage ball sets. There are three sets available together as a set on Amazon about the size of a baseball with soft, firm and very firm densities. They're made from a special polyurethane that have good "grip" characteristic that have stay in place when positioned on the different tracks.
The Whole Body Kit also includes a set of two standard lacrosse balls. These orange-colored sport lacrosse balls are my favorite and excellent for deep tissue release and specific application. They are also great to use on the neck track for subocipital, jaw, and neck release. Lastly there is a larger trigger point therapy massage ball set (4 inch diameter) for larger muscle groups like the shoulders, chest, back, glutes, and hamstrings. These work amazing wonders for the pectoral region and shoulders.

The Deep Recovery™ massage ball sets, neck and body tracks (and travel size foam rollers) are a wonderful and complete set of tools that can be easily incorporated into a daily exercise or post-workout regime and/or used for very specific application to treat acute Pain & Injury and release active trigger points. Although it takes some time to use these tools, if you're willing to put in the time factor, the effort could range from minimal to moderate effort based upon your intentions. Because these tools are designed to be used with sustained pressure and holding spots incrementally, the effort is really with your breathwork and changing the angle of your body for deeper and more specific pressure. Holding these spots for 30-60 seconds or until trigger points are released with full belly breathing, or diaphragmatic breathing, the energy output could be fairly minimal! I like that these are used with sustained pressure, which tends to yield a better response and longer lasting results for myofascial release. I would definitely recommend trying these products, even if you started out with only one massage ball set and either the body or neck track. And, absolutely make sure you watch the instructional videos! You will find that you can achieve way more and work muscles, such as the psoas, shin, jaw area, and posterior cervical muscles you may have never thought you could release with such a great tool set!
